Background

In August 2006 a project was initiated between the National University of Agriculture, Catacamas Municipality and the Catacamas Chamber of Commerce and Industry in order to apply the methodology RMD, Methodological Route for Development. The final product of the project was the formulation of the Local Economic Development Plan for the Municipality of Catacamas (PDEL).

The PDEL provides different scenarios for investment in economic sectors to encourage and boost the economy of the municipality of Catacamas. Besides of investments, the PDEL proposes various policies in a proposal drawn up to build a worthy, participative and productive city through employment generation, economic growth and social responsibility. The ultimate goal of this effort is to create conditions for poverty alleviation and social and economic asymmetries.

As an instrument of implementation of the PDEL the Agencia de Desarrollo Económico Local (Local Economic Development Agency of Catacamas) was created by agreement of the Municipal Corporation of Catacamas, Agreement No. SO 405-07, in the meeting September 12, 2007. Also approved by the Municipal Corporation: Agreement N º. SE-040-08, the statutes of the Agency on January 22, 2008. ADEL-CAT was officially inaugurated on February 28, 2008.

We are the recognized institution, professional, efficient and self sustainable in a medium-term, which helps organize the productive sectors of the municipality and manages programs and financing to promote integrated economic development, with emphasis on the conservation and rational management of natural resources.
